We will follow the specifications of your college/university for copies you submit to the institution, or you can select your own layout for personal copies. The most popular cover material is buckram, which is not only economical and durable, but attractive as well. Other material options include linen, bonded leather, and genuine leather. Pricing information is detailed within the order form below.
Helpful Information When Preparing Theses/Dissertations for BindingIt is suggested that a 1" margin be used when setting up your page preferences. Paper that is text stock (minimum 20# weight) binds the best. Thin onion-skin paper, and thick cover stock or photo quality paper, will not bind well.
We do not reproduce material...you must provide the number of copies you need bound. Copies must be collated and clearly separated, preferably by a colored sheet of paper. Avoid binding clips because they leave impressions on the paper, and rubber bands since they tend to tear the pages if there is movement during shipping. To prevent movement during shipping, filler (packing peanuts, balled up newsprint) should be used to fill any space not taken up by the printed pages. Responsibility for correct order rests with the writer, not the binder, so please be sure order is correct before mailing/leaving sets for binding. ***Important*** While it is sometimes possible to “switch out” incorrect pages after the books have been bound, it is not a perfect process, and the alteration can usually be noted. There is a minimum charge of $8 per volume to switch out pages, and that assumes that the original cover can still be used. If missing pages are added, the original cover may no longer fit the binding. It is best to be absolutely certain your pages are correct BEFORE submitting your material for binding!
We do not contact you upon receipt of your order unless there is a problem. If you would like confirmation of receipt of your shipment, please e-mail us around the time it should arrive to inquire about the status so that we may reply that way.
Standard turnaround time for non-leather binding of theses/dissertations is three weeks. We offer two types of rush service (see below). If you request a rush service, please be sure to indicate if expedited shipping should also be used. Ground UPS is our standard shipping method. Total shipping cost (which includes a handling fee) is not calculated until the order is complete and packed, at which time a shipping weight is determined. To estimate your shipping costs or see the number of days for ground transit, please use the UPS system.
Pricing information is detailed in our order form (see below). If your sets are thicker than 2", and/or your paper is size A4, please add $5 to the prices listed. Please note that payment is due prior to your order being shipped back to you. Please complete and include our form when you submit your order. If you are binding multiple copies different ways, please use one form to indicate your various choices. However, if you are submitting copies for more than one person, please use one form per individual person/title. If you have MS Word, you can type in your information before printing the form. If you do not, please use the PDF version, print it out, and manually fill in the information. Please do not e-mail the form or forward it under separate cover.
Imprint Style: Lettering is available in uppercase only. If a chemical or mathematical equation of Greek letters, subscripts, or superscripts is part of your title, please provide alternative wording. If you aren't sure if this applies to your title, please contact Karen.
